Chat safety: protect your privacy when meeting strangers
Friendship.chat is for adults aged 18 and over. Meeting someone online can be enjoyable, but a nickname does not prove identity, age, or intentions. Stay cautious even when a conversation feels familiar.
Keep identifying information to yourself
Do not share your password, one-time codes, payment information, government documents, home address, live location, or private photos. Use a nickname that does not expose your full name, phone number, or email address.
Understand public and private messages
The general lounge is shared with signed-in members. Private chats are restricted to their participants. If you report a message, an administrator can review that reported content, including private content. The service is not end-to-end encrypted; participants can also copy or screenshot what they see.
You control private requests
A member can send one introduction before you accept their private request. Accept only if you want to continue. Declining is fine. Never feel pressured to move to another app, turn on a camera, send a photo, or disclose personal information.
Use block and report
Open a member’s profile to block them. Blocking stops new private messages between the two guest identities and filters their public messages from your view. To report a specific message, choose Report and explain what happened. Reports do not guarantee an immediate response. A person may create another guest identity, so a block is not a real-world identity ban.
Watch for scams and suspicious links
Do not send money to someone you met in chat. Treat investment offers, giveaways, urgent emergencies, verification fees, and requests for login codes as warning signs. Avoid unfamiliar links and downloads. If a message looks suspicious, stop the conversation and report it.
Protect your guest session
Your browser stores your guest sign-in. Avoid using a shared computer for private conversations. Signing out or clearing browser data permanently loses your access to that guest identity; signing in with a similar nickname does not recover old chats.
If something feels unsafe
Stop replying, block the member, and report the message. For an immediate threat or emergency, contact local emergency services. Do not rely on a chat report for urgent assistance.
